Tools
Essential for preparation
A bamboo whisk is necessary. It's the only way to efficiently mix matcha with hot water. A whisk stand is handy for storing the whisk.
How to clean a bamboo whisk: rinse in running water and wipe matcha off with fingers. Let dry thoroughly.
Choose a tea bowl wide enough to make whisking "M" motions, and preferably with a serving spout.
A tea strainer is essential for breaking up clumps in matcha powder.
Care
Protect your matcha
Storing matcha properly is crucial to maintain its freshness and flavour. Here are some tips on how to store matcha:
Keep it airtight. Matcha is highly sensitive to oxidation, which can degrade its flavour and colour. Transfer and store the matcha powder in an airtight container to minimise exposure to oxygen. Never use a glass container that can expose the matcha to light.
Keep it cool. Matcha should be stored away from heat and sunlight. A cool, dark place like a pantry or cupboard is ideal. We love to store our matcha in the fridge.
